As Tyler Mason sought to advance his career, he is thankful that he hasn't had to move from one employer to another. Every opportunity he's wanted has been at Walmart, where he is now asset protection manager at Store 741 in Lenoir City, Tenn.
“I've held numerous positions in the five years I've been with Walmart,” Tyler says. “All in different parts of the business. It's great that you don't have to go to another company to advance.”
Tyler gives credit to Walmart's Develop to Lead Program, which provides him with on-the-job training that has allowed him to move from customer service and sales into asset protection. Attentive managers have selected him for the programs, sensing his eagerness to learn.
One of the most beneficial aspects of the Develop to Lead program, Tyler says, is that you get to mentor two employees per year, neither of which can be direct reports, allowing him to learn about all aspects of Walmart operations.
"The programs are set up," he says, “to allow you to do the best job you can.”
